Letting us do it

On a personal project, Auto-Arrange looks at your photos — how many there are, whether they are portrait or landscape, and when they were taken — and builds pages from them. It is the fastest way to get from a pile of photos to a finished book.

On a shared project, Auto-Layout Extra Photos does the same job for photos that have not been placed yet.

Doing it by hand

A page can hold 1 to 12 photos. Add or remove photos from a page and the layout adjusts to fit them.

To swap two photos, drag one onto the other — a badge appears before you let go, so you can see it will swap rather than replace.

To change what sits inside a frame, click the photo. That opens the zoom window, where you can zoom, pan, rotate, and adjust brightness and contrast.

Faces

When we detect a face in a photo, we position it so the face lands in the middle of its frame instead of the geometric centre. That is why a portrait dropped into a wide slot usually looks right without you touching it.
